Talk on Introduction to LiDAR and its Engineering and Other Applications

(Jointly organised by IEM G&S-YES & Malaysian Remote Sensing Society)

DATE : 25th March 2008 (Tuesday)

TIME : 6.30pm - 8.00pm

VENUE : ISM Conference Hall, 2nd Floor, Bangunan Ingenieur, Lot 60 & 62, Jalan 52/4, 46200 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

SPEAKER : Ms. Trudy R Ganendra, Dato’ Nik Nasruddin Mahmood

SYNOPSIS:

Accurate ground information is essential for most engineering, environmental, natural resources and infrastructural development works. While land survey has been and continues to be the most common method of finding this information, the last few decades have seen a flowering of alternatives and indeed a whole new industry called remote sensing. There are many different types of remote sensing techniques, including aerial photogrammetry, satellite imagery, etc. For this talk, one of the newest and highly usable remote sensing techniques, LiDAR, and its engineering and other applications will be covered. LiDAR has been in use in Malaysia since 1989 and its users have seen many cost, accuracy and speed benefits. The principals of LiDAR and how it can be used effectively by all the professionals will be described during this talk.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER:

*** Trudy R Ganendra of Ground Data Solutions Sdn Bhd (GDS), a Malaysian-owned high-tech LiDAR survey and mapping service provider, has Masters of Engineering from University of Cambridge and Masters of Science from Imperial College in Environmental Engineering. GDS has been providing accurate and cost efficient maps and mapping products to a broad range of clients since 1991 and has been widely used by developers, planners and designers throughout South East Asia.
*** Dato’ Nik Nasruddin Mahmood, Executive Chairman of Ground Data Solutions Sdn Bhd and was formerly attached to Malaysian Center of Remote Sensing (MACRES) as Director General. He holds M.Sc. (Remote Sensing) from International Institute for Aerospace Surveys and Earth Sciences (The Netherlands) and B. Sc. (Geophysics) from University Malaya.
